You will be picked up from your place of stay by your driver & local host and will drive you to Murudeshwar temple located in Murudeshwara beach. The prime attraction of this beach town is its Shiva temple. A famous landmark here is the world’s second tallest Shiva statue. The statue, standing at a height of 123 feet, took almost 20 years for Shivamogg’s Kashinath and several other sculptors to build. The Shiva temple is surrounded by sea on three sides and presents a beautiful picture at sunrise and sunset. Two life-sized elephants made of concrete stand guard at the steps leading to the temple.
The Beach Temple of Murudeshwara towers on a small hill called Kanduka Giri, surrounded by the Arabian Sea on three sides. One can see two life-size elephants at the temple steps. On going up the hillock, there is a shrine of Jattiga seated on a horse. The 20-storied, 249 feet tall Raja Gopura is considered the tallest gopura in the world. A huge fort called Murudeshwara Fort, present behind the temple, is said to have been renovated by King Tippu Sultan of Mysore. Murudeshwar Temple has many carvings and statues that date back to a few centuries. Few inscriptions are also found in the temple. The Chalukya and Kadamba sculptures found in the temple are designed in the Dravidian style. A Nataraja statue made of bell metal is also seen outside the Murudeshwar Beach Temple.
Murudeshwara Beach, situated between Bhatkal and Honnavar, is one of the prominent attractions of Murudeshwara. From the beach, travellers can view the huge statue of Shiva. The beach is visited for Murudeshwara Temple, which is situated at a distance of a kilometre. The beach is surrounded by Arabian Sea to the west and hills to the east. Travellers can indulge in swimming, fishing and sunbathing at this beach. Moreover, family boat ride or mechanised boat rides are also available. The beach is an ideal location to enjoy the beautiful views of sunrise and sunset.
